Virtual Run FAQ

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and our intent on keeping all of our participants, volunteers, staff and community safe, the 2021 Oakville Half Marathon will be moving to a virtual format.

We will be announcing more details about the virtual event in early March, so please stay tuned!

How does it work?

A virtual event is a chance for runners to achieve their running goals and stay active when we are not all able to congregate together. Runners can run or walk the event they registered for on their treadmill, around town, or anywhere that is safe to do so under provincial and municipal guidelines. Run or walk your distance, then upload your time using the specific instructions sent to you and see where you stack up!

When do I run?

You can upload your results as many times as you’d like between October 2 – October 31.

Who is eligible to run the virtual race?

Anyone who registers for our Virtual Run from our website.

Will the course be pre-set or can I make one up?

This is YOUR race! You can run or walk on a treadmill or choose your own route for the virtual event—we suggest you adhere to Public Health Agencies’ guidelines and try to stay within your neighbourhood. You can create fun loops, set-up your own fuel/water station in your yard and tell your neighbours so they can cheer you on from their porches!

We will be providing some suggestions of some of the best and fastest virtual routes around Brampton for you to try out. Please obey local and provincial guidelines with regards to acceptable places to run and remember to social distance!

We ask that you please obey all local and provincial guidelines, as well as all traffic and road signage if you will be running in your community.

How much does the virtual event cost?

See our registration page for more details:

Will prizes be given out?

Since participants are responsible for uploading their own time to Sportstats, prizing will be awarded via draw format instead of distance winner prizing. We encourage participants to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay up-to-date on draws and contests.

What if I don’t wish to run the virtual event?

You may defer your entry to the 2022 Oakville Half Marathon if you do not wish to participate in the 2021 Virtual Oakville Half Marathon. Please email us at with your full name stating that you wish to receive a deferral instead. We must receive your notice of deferral by September 13th.
