The Medical Directors of the Oakville Half Marathon are Russell Gunner, C.A.T.(C) and Katherine Hambleton R.N. Their job is to organize the medical team, which includes physicians, nurses, paramedics and therapists, to provide a safe environment for the runners. They are responsible for a contingent of medical support at the finish line.
St John’s Ambulance provides generous support to the Oakville Half Marathon through voluntary personnel and equipment along the race route.
Certified Athletic Therapist
Russell Gunner, C.A.T. (C) is an Athletic Therapist certified with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association. The therapeutic medical team that he organizes consists of fellow athletic therapists, physiotherapists and massage therapists from across the GTA.
As an experienced triathlete, Russell has been treating running injuries for over 25 years at Club Physio Plus, one of the leading sports medicine facilities in Mississauga and Oakville. Russell has particular interest in treating running injuries, including Iliotibial band, plantar fasciitis and most other lower extremity issues.
Katherine Hambleton R.N., ENC(C), A-EMCA
Katherine Hambleton, R.N. is a Registered Nurse certified under the College of Nurses of Ontario and has more than a decade of experience in the critical care setting (emergency department and cardiovascular intensive care unit). The medical team that she organizes is comprised of health care professionals including physicians, nurses and paramedics from across the GTA.
Each member of the medical response team is an experienced emergency provider and maintains CPR and AED certification annually.
